The “Good” Book??

Standard

I’ve just never been able to figure out why many people swear on the Bible. It is also amazing to me about how many of those same people have never actually read it. And of those who have, is there something wrong with their comprehension skills. The Bible is full of hatred, violence, and incest!

How can this book even be considered “good”. It preaches one thing, yet obviously, there were many goings-on in there that we should overlook.

Apparently, they realized that many things were wrong back then and set out to create rules to make things right. That is all fine and good. Yet there are people today who only go to church so that they can see the bad in others. Since they go to church religiously, that makes them good, right?

How are hatred and fault-finding right? Just do good and accept others for who they are and that’s all the guidance you need.

Happy Easter, From An Atheist

Standard

No, I don’t “celebrate” Easter in the sense of a religious holiday, but I love decorating Easter eggs. I love the Easter candy. I love the colorful ornaments and how nice they look in my yard.

I decorate for Christmas. The beautiful lights are amazing and I hate to see them go when the season is over. IMG-20161218-WA0037

I say, “Happy Easter and Merry Christmas” because it goes beyond the religiousness. It is tradition, and that’s it. If you take it to mean that I am wishing you a happy holiday in the religious sense, and you celebrate these holidays religiously, then that’s great. If you don’t, then you don’t, but that is no reason to go ballistic over it or to take it personally.

It should also not come as a surprise that an atheist feels this way. There are plenty of Jewish people who celebrate Christmas, along with their own traditional holidays. There are many people who celebrate Kwanza and Christmas. Maybe ‘celebrate’ is the wrong word, as it is not necessarily a celebration. Often, it is just decorating and enjoying the season and the feel in the air. It is about enjoying loved ones and good times. It is celebrating life and living.

Bottom line: Who cares if you say or celebrate Christmas or Easter. If you do, you do, and if you don’t, you don’t. Whatever you do, just live and let live.

Seriously – what if there were no religion?

Standard

John Lennon’s much loved song, “Imagine” tried to get us to think about what the world would be like without religion. People love that song, but does anyone really think about what it actually means? Does anyone really imagine what a world without religion would be like?

So many hate crimes going on the world today are based on religion. Basically, it’s all about “my God is better than your God”. So people kill over it.

Yet, it’s crazy. It’s senseless killing to try to prove a point. It’s all in attempts try to prove who is holier. By killing? Seriously?

To top it off, no God has ever been proven to exist. That’s mind-boggling! It’s also hard to believe that there are so few atheists. So many people are afraid of the consequences of not believing. As intelligent as society proclaims to be, people are afraid to not believe. Why??

So, just think about it. What if it were true? What if there were no God? Can you imagine
14680964_10210339319226933_3445231365751080852_othen what a peaceful world it would be? Or would it be chaotic because people are no longer afraid of going to Hell? Would the true nature of people then be revealed? Would people continue to kill just because that was their true nature all along?

Who knows? One thing that is certain, though, is that people are easily fooled. We wonder how some cults can corrupt young (and sometimes old) minds. But, hasn’t this been going on for centuries?

But, what if…?

Atheists Are Not Devil Worshipers

Standard

Let’s get this straight: Not believing in a “God” does not mean that one worships the devil!

That was often the first thing that people would think whenever someone proclaimed themselves to be an atheist. However, more and more, the world is starting to really think about reality and wonder if there really is some guy in the sky who tells us to do good, or else! That sounds pretty harsh, I know, but that is truly what many people believe. Various religions have their own ideas of “God”. But, can anyone prove anything? Yet – how can the masses be wrong?

14095976_10209864820324757_4819318819279458748_nI honestly wonder if more people believe just out of a fear of not believing. What will become of them? What’s going to happen if they admit that some things are just not possible, and could not have happened? Will they be struck by lightning? Will they have a horrible accident?

First of all, we are all going to die. Some people are going to have more horrific and painful deaths than others. It’s very sad, but that’s a fact. No belief in God is ever going to change the outcome. No matter what you eat, no matter how you live, you’re going.  And when you’re gone, you’re gone.  OK – so, there may have actually been a “Jesus”. He was a person. He could have beem real. But, come on…! Do you really think that his parents did not have sex? Do you know how people were treated back in the day for doing the unthinkable – having sex before they were married? They were young. They were scared. The poor guy was brought up to believe that his father was this “God” person, and somehow, everyone else bought it, too!

If this “God” were suddenly to come down to Earth and say, “Hey, I’m here!”, would anyone believe him? It’s actually been done before. People have been locked up in insane asylums for doing it.

These thoughts are real and should be considered. These ideas and theories do not in any way suggest that just because someone does not believe in a “God” that they believe in a “Devil”. Rather, more people who believe in “God” believe in “The Devil”.

Looking at the way things are going in the world today, it would seem that more evil than good is being done to prove whose “God” is better. You have to wonder about their “Gods”. The more we are being forced to believe a certain way, they more we are wondering who the “Devil Worshipers” actually are.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s not bad to believe in “Something”. As a matter of fact, if a belief makes people do good, then it’s probably best for them to continue believing it. Prayer sends positivity out into the world, so if you are someone who prays, by all means, keep on doing so.

It’s nice to know that many people are waking up and actually thinking about facts and wanting proof. Science still has a long way to go, but the facts are that it is easier to disprove “God” than it is to prove “Him/Her”.
